The 3 species are conveniently distinguished through the sample of their stripes. While in the plains zebra the stripes are large and extensively spaced; some subspecies have lighter “shadow stripes” involving the key stripes. The northern subspecies with the plains zebra tend to be more totally striped than the southern ones, through which the
